The Instrument

Jerusalem · Beirut · Munich · Paris

Born in Jerusalem in 1945 and raised in the silence of exile in Beirut, Joseph learns early that attachment is a liability. He becomes a violinist of clinical precision, and a young man with nothing left to lose. In Paris, 1968, someone has been watching him. Someone who knows exactly what he could become.

The Instrument-Maker

Sofia · Moscow · Vienna · Cairo · Damascus · Beirut · Paris

Yuri is a Bulgarian intelligence officer whose craft is finding people and turning them into something else. Across a career that runs from Sofia to Moscow to the Middle East, he learns how to build a man. In Paris, 1968, he finds Joseph. This is the same recruitment, seen from the other side.

Two companion novels. Each stands alone; read together, they tell the whole story.

About the author

Nadim Alain Souss marks his entry into literature with The Instrument and The Instrument-Maker, two companion thrillers shaped by the turbulent spirit of post–World War II politics. A finance professional, he has spent his career structuring transactions in markets that move faster than the regulation meant to govern them.

He is at work on his next novel.
